About the Author-izer

au·tho·r-iz·er

n. A writer who turns other people into authors;
a ghostwriter; a co-author; a contract writer.

The Short Version

Sallie Goetsch started helping other people with their writing at the age of nine. Before going into business for herself, she translated, directed, produced, and was sometimes forced to act in Greek and Roman plays, as well as founding an electronic journal. Her FileSlinger™ Backup Blog appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle in May 2005.

Background

As a former university lecturer and journal editor, I am experienced at evaluating, critiquing, and altering manuscripts to suit their intended audience. I’m also a natural-born pedant: I’ve been helping people with their spelling and grammar since I was nine. Moreover, I just love writing. I dictated my first book to my mother at the age of three and wrote my first novel when I was 19.

As Managing Editor of Didaskalia: Ancient Theater Today, I evaluated submissions, edited them for grammar, style, and clarity, returned them to their authors for approval, and then marked them up for publication. I also contributed articles on Greek and Roman stagecraft and wrote book and theater reviews. I’m a lapsed member of the Bay Area Editors’ Forum.

I have also translated Greek and Roman plays for the stage, including Aeschylus’ Eumenides, Euripides’ Bacchae, Plautus’ Cistellaria, and Sophocles’ Philoctetes.

Resume

The nature of a ghostwriter’s work is such that you aren’t allowed to name all your clients, much less show someone else samples of your work for them. But you can download this writing resume (updated September 2007) which lists some of the kinds of business writing I have done.

Samples

Naturally, no one wants to hire a writer who can’t write, so I’ve put my writing all over the web:

If you want samples of specific kinds of writing, or a free 250-word test edit/rewrite, contact me.

Clients

I’ll have more clients and case studies posted soon, but meanwhile, take a look at the clients page.
