In spite of the fact that I totalled my car on the drive down to Ontario, the Podcast and Portable Media Expo at the end of September was the most fun I’ve had all year. (Well, okay, the most fun at a business event.) I put a lot of effort into preparing, including hand-pressing buttons with the logos/album art from my favorite podcasts.

Yes, my qualification for giving a presentation on “Creating and Keeping Raving Fans” is that I’m a raving fan myself. And after narrowly avoiding violent death, the emphasis was definitely on “raving,” as you can guess from my slightly glazed expression in Paolo Tosolini’s photo from the speakers’ reception on September 28th.

The reason I haven’t blogged about this sooner is that I’ve spent most of the past month dealing with the fallout of the car accident and the search for a new car. (Do you have any idea how hard it is to find a used 4-door sedan with a manual transmission?)

So here, at last, is the link to the “Creating and Keeping Raving Fans” presentation page, which includes my slides in multiple formats and the collected answers I got to “What makes you a fan?” Unfortunately, there’s no recording, as both the Expo’s professionals and Yours Truly messed that part up.

As I said, I had a great time at the Expo. I got to hook up with some of my favorite podcasters (e.g. Tee Morris, Heidi Miller, Shel Holtz, CC Chapman) and show off my Podcast Asylum white coat. I shared a hotel room with Heather Gorringe of the absolutely hysterical Wiggly Wigglers podcast and got a ride home with Martin McKeay of the Network Security podcast.

Registration for next year’s PME opens in 2007. I definitely recommend it for anyone interested in podcasting.
